At Lygos, we are dedicated to transforming the industrial landscape by developing biobased, sustainable solutions that replace traditional petroleum-based products. Our innovative technology platform utilizes organic acids to create specialty chemicals for everything from home and personal care items to high-performance plastics. We are looking for a talented Industrial Chemist to join our Downstream and Scaleup team at our Hayward, California headquarters. If you are passionate about green chemistry and want to help us build a more sustainable future, we would love to have you on our team.
What you'll be doing
- You will design and perform experiments at the lab and pilot scales to optimize process conditions and gather the essential data needed for successful scale-up.
- You will lead the development of processes for our functional polymers and ensure these processes are safely and efficiently transferred to our contract manufacturing partners.
- You will take charge of analyzing experimental data, creating technical reports, and presenting your findings to stakeholders to drive our production goals forward.
What you'll bring
To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong background in chemistry and a commitment to safety. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- A PhD in chemistry or a related field with at least 3 years of industrial experience, or a BS/MS degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Proven, hands-on experience in scaling chemical processes from the bench or lab level up to pilot or manufacturing environments.
- A solid understanding of synthetic chemistry principles and the methodology required to make production processes commercially viable.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Fluency in English and the ability to travel approximately 20% of the time to support equipment trials and on-site operations.
What you'll get
We offer a salary range of $125,000 to $145,000, and this position is also eligible for additional bonus compensation. In addition to your salary, you will receive a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and long-term success:
