Since 2001, Mastery Schools has been dedicated to a singular, powerful mission. We operate a network of 24 K-12 schools across Philadelphia and Camden, where we serve more than 14,000 students. Our work is rooted in the belief that every student deserves the academic and personal foundation necessary to pursue their dreams. We are not just an educational organization. We are a team committed to disrupting systemic racism and addressing the disparities that limit student choices. We foster a culture of respect and service, where honesty and humor are part of our daily rhythm as we strive to build a model urban school district that serves every student with excellence.
The opportunity
We are looking for a Human Resources Manager to join our team in a full-time, hybrid capacity. In this role, you will act as a vital business partner to our campuses and departments. You will provide guidance to leaders, ensure our policies are applied consistently, and manage complex HR projects from start to finish. By overseeing key functions like employee relations, performance management, and HRIS administration, you will help us maintain an environment where our staff can thrive and focus on what matters most: our students. You will report directly to the Director of Human Resources and play a key role in shaping the employee experience across our network.
A day in the life
- Serve as a trusted advisor to campus leaders by providing guidance on conflict management, compliance, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Lead the design and delivery of essential training programs, including those focused on DEIA, compliance, and professional development.
- Manage the full lifecycle of complex HR projects, ensuring that all stakeholders stay informed and that every deliverable meets our high standards.
Who you are
You are a seasoned professional who brings a blend of strategic thinking and hands-on operational expertise. You are comfortable navigating the complexities of employment law and have a passion for supporting people in an educational setting. To be successful here, you should have:
- At least three years of progressively responsible experience in HR management, operations, or compliance.
- Either a high school diploma with six years of relevant experience or a bachelor’s degree in a field like human resources, organizational behavior, or psychology with two years of experience.
- Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and a natural aptitude for data analysis and HRIS management.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate groups and handle confidential matters with extreme discretion.
- A self-starting attitude and the ability to travel locally to our various school sites as needed.
While not required, we strongly prefer candidates with HRCI or SHRM certification and a working knowledge of Pennsylvania and New Jersey employment regulations.
Why you'll love it here
We believe in supporting our team members just as much as we support our students. You will enjoy a hybrid work environment that offers flexibility, along with a comprehensive benefits package designed to provide peace of mind and long-term security. Our perks include:
- A robust Employee Assistance Program, including mental health and counseling resources.
- Retirement planning support, including a 403(b) plan with a 5% match for Pennsylvania employees or enrollment in the New Jersey State Pension Plan for our New Jersey team members.
- Access to an annual Professional Development Fund to help you continue growing in your career.
- A variety of discounts on travel, insurance, and retail, plus a dedicated Benefits VIP Helpdesk to assist you with any questions.
