Head of UI and UX Platform Engineering at MarketAxess

The role

We are looking for a hands-on Principal engineer and architect to lead our UI and UX platform team. This is a full-time, executive-level position based in the United Kingdom. You will be instrumental in shaping our front-end technology strategy and the React ecosystem. This role requires a leader who is comfortable working in a hybrid environment, balancing technical architecture with team mentorship and product strategy.

Core responsibilities

• Partner with product and engineering leadership to define roadmaps and build a robust UI platform that serves as the foundation for all our applications.
• Provide technical vision and strategy for complex systems, including cloud-native architecture, streaming, and micro-frontend development.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performance team while fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and open-source development practices.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you should have extensive experience in software engineering and design leadership. We are looking for the following qualifications:

• Over 12 years of progressive software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in architecture and team leadership and 5 years in cloud environments.
• At least 5 years of experience in UX design and interaction design, ideally within the fintech or e-trading space.
• Advanced technical proficiency with React, TypeScript, Node, GraphQL, Java, and Kafka.
• Deep understanding of microservices, API design, and cloud-native architectures.
• Proven ability to influence product strategy at a senior level and build trusting partnerships with stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex architectural decisions to executive leadership.
