Head of Technology at WGRZ

WGRZ, the NBC affiliate in Buffalo, New York, is part of the TEGNA network. We are currently looking for a seasoned and adaptable Head of Technology and Operations to join our team. In this senior role, you will report to the Regional Head of Technology and Operations and provide leadership for our Engineering, Production, and Information Technology departments. You will play a vital role in maintaining our broadcast capabilities within a 24/7/365 environment.

Key outcomes

• Develop and execute both short-term and long-term technology strategies for the station.
• Direct daily operations, which includes maintaining core infrastructure, studios, control rooms, and transmission systems for all live programming.
• Ensure full compliance with FCC regulations and station security policies, including vulnerability protection and incident reporting.
• Oversee business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
• Manage financial responsibilities for the Engineering and Production departments, including budget oversight and approvals.
• Maintain high standards for on-air technical quality through daily monitoring.
• Drive workflow enhancements for our digital and on-air products.
• Manage vendor relationships for building services, security, and technology contracts.
• Direct capital planning and lead project management for station-wide initiatives.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• At least five years of experience in a management role within broadcast operations or technology.
• Expertise in broadcast technologies, such as production control room automation, ENPS newsroom systems, RF transmission, routers, switchers, and signal path workflows.
• Strong understanding of IT security, workflow management, and general IT processes.
• Proven leadership abilities with a focus on effective team management.
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated project management experience.
• The ability to make sound decisions under pressure and work a flexible schedule to support our continuous operations.
