At Stellic, we understand the frustration of navigating a complex academic path because our own journey began with those same challenges. Born from the experiences of international students at Carnegie Mellon, we have evolved into a movement dedicated to solving the 200 billion dollar dropout crisis in higher education. Today, we partner with top institutions like Cornell, Columbia, and Ohio State to empower over one million students to take control of their academic futures with clarity and purpose. We are a mission-driven team that believes in the power of personalized education, and we invite you to join us in reimagining what is possible for students worldwide.
The role
We are seeking a Head of Product Design to join our team in a full-time, hybrid capacity. This is a lead-level position based in San Mateo, where you will be expected to work from the office three days per week. As a player-coach in our high-growth, Series A startup, you will bridge the gap between high-level vision and hands-on execution. You will work directly with our founders, product managers, and engineering teams to shape the student experience across our enterprise SaaS platform.
Core responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a talented design team while fostering a culture of excellence and supporting the professional development of your team members.
- Take ownership of significant product design initiatives, balancing your responsibilities as a leader with active, hands-on contributions to our most complex projects.
- Drive the evolution of our design system, establish scalable processes, and ensure our design strategy remains tightly aligned with our business goals and technical capabilities.
Skills and experience
- At least 8 years of professional product design experience, including a minimum of 3 years in a management or leadership role.
- A robust portfolio that highlights your ability to lead end-to-end design for complex enterprise products.
- Proven expertise in conducting user research and translating those insights into strategic, user-centered design directions.
- A strong background in visual design and the ability to guide others in creating cohesive, delightful experiences.
- Demonstrated success in building design standards and processes that allow a team to scale effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas to executive stakeholders.
Compensation and benefits
The base salary for this position is $175,000 to $215,000, supplemented by stock options. We are committed to supporting our team through a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:
- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
- 401k retirement savings plan.
- Commuter benefits.
- Annual international company retreats in beautiful locations.
- A flexible, outcome-based work culture.
How to apply
If you are a creative leader who is passionate about using design to solve meaningful, real-world problems, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application, including your portfolio, to be considered for this opportunity to help us reshape the future of education.
