Head of Engineering - Mobile (Portugal - Hybrid/Remote) at SwordHealth

We are looking for a passionate Head of Engineering to lead our mobile initiatives in Portugal, working in a hybrid or remote capacity to help us scale our impact.

Key outcomes

• Lead and mentor multiple software engineering teams, providing guidance on technical best practices, development methodologies, and project management.
• Manage the career progression, team structure, and continuous evolution of your engineering staff.
• Oversee the design, development, and implementation of complex mobile software systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to identify solutions and gather requirements.
• Ensure all software deliverables meet high quality standards and are completed on time and within budget.
• Develop engineering strategies that align with our broader business objectives.
• Maintain high standards for code quality through regular reviews and hands-on contributions.
• Manage stakeholder expectations and proactively resolve technical dependencies across different teams.

Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in native mobile application development for Android or iOS.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin or Swift.
• Proven experience in a leadership role managing engineering teams.
• Deep understanding of the ecosystem of tools, libraries, and design patterns relevant to mobile development.
• Ability to design software components independently with a focus on simplicity and long-term maintenance.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to define features across multiple product areas.
• Experience coaching colleagues and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
• Must possess a valid EU visa and be based in Portugal, as this role does not offer relocation assistance.
• Fluency in English.

• An agile mindset that views leadership as a proactive task rather than just a position.
