We are looking for a Senior GPU Consultant Engineer to join our fully remote team. You will build open source graphics drivers that run on real hardware, working directly within the Vulkan stack and contributing upstream to Mesa and the Linux DRM subsystem.
Responsibilities
- Contribute directly to Mesa and the Linux DRM subsystem by writing Vulkan driver code that reaches mainline and impacts users worldwide.
- Solve complex technical problems, such as debugging GPU behavior, reverse engineering hardware quirks, and fixing rendering issues.
- Collaborate with Mesa and kernel maintainers while representing our team at industry conferences.
- Translate client and hardware vendor requirements into upstream-compatible solutions.
- Navigate project constraints, including hardware bring-up timelines and performance targets, while maintaining high code quality.
- Serve as a technical advisor to product teams, providing transparent assessments of architecture decisions and project possibilities.
Must-haves
- Solid understanding of the Vulkan core specification, including command buffers, synchronization, memory management, and pipelines.
- Familiarity with GPU hardware concepts like queues, memory hierarchies, and tilers versus IMR.
- Experience with Linux kernel internals and DRM fundamentals, such as GEM, dma-buf, and GPU job submission paths.
- Awareness of Mesa architecture, including Gallium and driver structure.
- Proficiency in C and C++, with a focus on memory management and kernel-style coding.
- Professional proficiency in English.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Git and mailing list patch workflows.
- An active open source contribution mindset, including existing Mesa or kernel patch history.
- Familiarity with specific GPU families like ARM, AMD, or Intel.
- Scripting capabilities using Python.
- Rust programming skills.
- Understanding of KMS fundamentals or Wayland clients.
Benefits
- Flexible working hours and a fully remote work environment.
- Professional development opportunities, including support for conference attendance and speaking engagements.
- Paid time off.
- Wellness programs, including biannual wellbeing assessments with mental health specialists.
