At Gruntwork, we are on a mission to fundamentally change how organizations handle DevOps. We believe that designing, launching, and managing infrastructure should not be a painful experience. Our team is globally recognized for our thought leadership and the open source tools we provide to thousands of companies, ranging from early-stage startups to major Fortune 500 enterprises.
The role
We are seeking a Senior Golang Engineer to join us on a contract basis. This role is dedicated to our open source initiatives, with a primary focus on OpenTofu and other critical tools within our ecosystem. This is a remote position that offers significant flexibility, as you will manage your own schedule in coordination with the OpenTofu development team. While this begins as a contract role, it offers a potential pathway to full-time employment as our team continues to grow.
Core responsibilities
- Collaborate directly with the open source community to design and implement cutting-edge features that push the boundaries of DevOps tooling.
- Maintain and enhance the quality of our existing codebases, infrastructure, and technical documentation.
- Review pull requests and provide constructive feedback to both our internal team and the broader open source community.
Skills and experience
- At least 5 years of professional software development experience with a strong emphasis on Golang.
- Proven track record of contributing to open source projects, ideally in a leadership or maintainer capacity.
- Deep expertise in building cloud infrastructure, including extensive experience with OpenTofu or Terraform modules and production operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to engage effectively with customers and community members.
- A commitment to working approximately 25 to 35 hours per week, with availability for about 48 weeks per year.
- Ability to work within time zones ranging from Los Angeles to New York to ensure effective collaboration and work-life balance.
Compensation and benefits
This position offers the benefit of fully remote work. You will have the autonomy to control your working hours, provided you maintain coordination with the OpenTofu development team.
How to apply
If you are passionate about DevOps best practices and want to contribute to high-impact open source projects, we would love to hear from you. Our hiring process includes a phone screen, a values assessment, technical interviews with our team and the OpenTofu core developers, and a paid trial day to ensure we are a great match for one another. Please submit your application to begin the conversation.
