We are Bixal, a consulting firm based in Fairfax, Virginia, dedicated to helping government agencies and organizations provide better services to their communities. We believe in using evidence-based insights and modern technology to foster continuous improvement and deliver on meaningful missions. We are currently looking for a Senior Generalist Full Stack Engineer to join our team and support the SPRUCE contract. In this role, you will help us build and maintain veteran-facing web applications, ensuring that our digital solutions remain secure, accessible, and highly performant for Veterans and their families. This is a full-time, remote position available to anyone authorized to work in the United States.
What you'll be doing
- You will develop and maintain full-stack web applications for VA.gov, focusing on building responsive front-end components with React and integrating them with Drupal backends.
- You will design and manage RESTful and GraphQL APIs while supporting our cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to ensure efficient deployment and high system performance.
- You will work within an Agile environment, collaborating closely with UX researchers, designers, and content teams to ensure all features meet rigorous accessibility standards like Section 508 and WCAG 2.2 AA.
What you'll bring
To be successful in this role, you should have a solid foundation in software engineering and a passion for civic technology. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field paired with at least four years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and professional background.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, Express.js, and React.
- Practical experience working with Drupal, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS and a solid understanding of web security best practices.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
- Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to thrive in cross-functional, collaborative teams.
