The opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Fullstack Engineer to join our team as we work alongside the Department of Veterans Affairs. You will play a vital role in enhancing the digital experience for Veterans by helping to build an integrated portal on VA.gov. This position is perfect for someone who thrives in a collaborative, cross-functional setting and wants to contribute to a platform that simplifies access to healthcare, disability benefits, and critical information. You will work as an individual contributor, partnering with our Engineering Lead to uphold high standards of quality and user experience across both web and mobile platforms.

A day in the life

• You will build and maintain accessible, scalable features using Ruby on Rails for the backend and React with TypeScript or JavaScript for the frontend.
• You will ensure the reliability of our systems by writing comprehensive automated tests and monitoring application performance through tools like Datadog.
• You will actively participate in our engineering culture by engaging in pair programming, conducting peer reviews, and contributing to our CI/CD pipelines to keep our deployments seamless and secure.

Who you are

You are a seasoned engineer with at least 5 years of professional experience, including a strong background in both frontend and backend technologies. You bring at least 3 years of recent, hands-on experience with React and TypeScript. You are comfortable working in cloud-native environments and have practical knowledge of AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes. Beyond your technical skills, you understand the importance of secure development and are familiar with Zero Trust principles. You are a clear communicator who is fluent in English and eager to mentor others while contributing to an open-source ecosystem.
