At VivaCity, we are on a mission to make cities smarter, safer, and more sustainable through the power of AI and IoT. With over 6,000 sensors deployed globally, we collect real-time, anonymous data on traffic and travel patterns to help improve transport networks everywhere. We pride ourselves on a collaborative culture that values privacy by design and community-centric innovation. If you are an energetic engineer who wants to use technology to create a positive impact on the world, we would love to meet you.
What is this role?
We are looking for a mid-level Full-Stack Engineer to join our six-person sensors and signals team on a full-time basis. This is a hybrid role based in our London office, where you will typically spend two days a week collaborating with your colleagues in person. You will report directly to our Engineering Manager, Andy Jackson, and play a vital role in managing the massive scale of data flowing from our smart traffic sensors to our government clients.
What will you do?
- Lead proactive technical initiatives, including product development, reliability improvements, and developer experience enhancements.
- Manage reactive technical tasks such as incident response, support requests, and code reviews to ensure our systems remain robust.
- Engage in planning and administrative tasks to help guide the direction of our AI-powered traffic sensor infrastructure.
What makes you a great fit?
You are a curious problem-solver who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has a strong bias for action. We value clear communication and a collaborative spirit, as you will often engage in pair programming and team discussions. To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Significant commercial experience or project work using JavaScript, Node.js, and a statically-typed language like TypeScript or Go.
- Working knowledge of Git and the command line.
- Experience with cloud engineering, specifically GCP or AWS.
- Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes.
- A solid understanding of SQL or other structured query languages.
- A resourceful mindset and the ability to work independently on technical tasks.
What's in it for you?
We offer a salary range of £65,000 to £85,000. Beyond your compensation, we support your well-being and professional growth with a comprehensive benefits package:
- Flexible working hours, work-from-home options, and the ability to work from abroad for up to 30 days per year.
- A dedicated learning budget to help you grow your skills.
- Paid time off, including 25 days of holiday and flexible bank holidays.
- Medical and dental insurance options.
- A mental wellness budget and support services.
- Commuter benefits and a cycle-to-work scheme.
- Regular company retreats and team social events.
