Founding Principal Software Engineer at Nextdata

The role

We are seeking a Founding Principal Software Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is an executive-level position where you will play a foundational role in shaping our technology and the future of data mesh adoption. You will work in a remote capacity, contributing to the architecture and implementation of our next-generation platform, including our data product containers and runtime. Because we are in the early stages of our journey, you will have a significant impact on our design decisions and the overall direction of our product.

Core responsibilities

• Architect and build a secure, high-performance operating system platform tailored for data product developers.
• Apply your expertise in large-scale distributed systems and databases to support decentralized analytical and machine learning workloads.
• Collaborate closely with our product, design, and engineering teams to maintain high standards of code quality and system architecture.

Skills and experience

We are looking for a seasoned technologist who brings a wealth of experience and a passion for building robust infrastructure. You should possess the following qualifications:

• Over 10 years of experience developing production-grade distributed systems, data infrastructure, or large-scale databases.
• Proficiency as a polyglot systems programmer with experience in languages such as Rust, C++, or Go.
• A working knowledge of Kubernetes and experience with at least one major public cloud provider.
• A background in building SaaS or PaaS products, along with experience in DevOps and continuous delivery practices.
• Experience working within digital-native startups or scale-up environments.
• Strong communication skills and a product-minded approach, with a deep sense of empathy for the developer experience.
• Fluency in English.
