At Odys, we are revolutionizing how the world travels by developing a hybrid vertical takeoff and landing aircraft designed for major airlines. Our mission is to slash travel times on the busiest routes by utilizing local airports and city helipads, making regional air travel both faster and more sustainable. With over 40 percent of global flights covering less than 1,000 miles, we see a massive opportunity to eliminate the typical airport hassle while significantly reducing CO2 emissions. Our team is composed of seasoned engineers with deep experience in aerospace and deep tech, having previously brought everything from magnetic levitation vehicles to custom drones into production. We are looking for someone who shares our drive to solve complex problems and wants to push the boundaries of aviation.
Role at a glance
We are searching for a Flight Dynamics & Controls Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a mid-level position based on-site in the United States. You will play a vital role in our engineering department, working alongside aerodynamics, mechanical, and testing teams to shape the future of our aircraft.
Your impact
- You will create and refine flight dynamics modeling strategies while defining the requirements needed to analyze aerodynamic data.
- You will design, validate, and implement navigation, guidance, and control algorithms to ensure optimal aircraft performance.
- You will lead the development of automated methods for model validation and testing, while integrating various system components into our comprehensive aircraft simulation models.
What you'll need
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong foundation in aerospace engineering and a passion for solving novel technical challenges. We require the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or a related field, though an MSc or PhD is preferred.
- At least 2 years of professional experience specifically in control systems or flight dynamics modeling.
- Deep expertise in aircraft stability, flight dynamics, and the analysis of complex, nonlinear physical systems.
- A solid understanding of feedback control system design as it applies to aircraft.
- Proven experience validating flight dynamics models using real-world flight test or experimental data.
- Advanced proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and Excel.
- The ability to thrive and work independently in a fast-paced, high-innovation environment.
- Fluency in English.
Bonus points if you have experience with Python, C/C++, HIL/SIL/MIL testing, or specific aircraft system identification tools like CIFER or SIDPAC.
