ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to a Manager/Principal Scientist of Formulations Research, the Flavor Scientist will perform a variety of critical product development activities for electronic nicotine delivery systems. The Flavor Scientist is a hands-on, laboratory-based role that will be responsible in helping to design and test products, novel prototypes, with a focus on flavor innovation, furthering product research activities at Juul Labs. The Flavor Scientist will work closely with scientists and should be comfortable around standard lab equipment and methodologies for flavor and e-liquid compounding, have a working knowledge of flavor ingredients, and actively participate in ingredient and prototype evaluations. The Flavor Scientist will work in conjunction with chemistry, regulatory, toxicology, and quality colleagues to ensure all raw materials and formulations meet desired requirements. He/she is expected to demonstrate a mid-level understanding of the subject matter in the functional area, and is capable of lending technical expertise to cross-functional teams of scientists and non-scientists. The Flavor Scientist is highly motivated, nimble at navigating complex challenges, a skilled multitasker, is adaptable and works effectively in a fast-paced environment, and works collaboratively with the teams at Juul Labs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Apply flavor ingredient expertise to develop and refine novel formulations, compound flavors and e-liquids for evaluation/testing
• Achieve outlined development goals and milestones for product pipeline
• Demonstrate functional and contextual knowledge to advise and influence decisions from stakeholders, provide technical flavor support to other groups
• Evaluate raw materials, flavors/ingredients for use in e-liquid formulations, collaborate with regulatory and product stewardship colleagues to meet desired requirements
• Work with cross-functional teams to optimize the performance of our products
• Present progress updates and reports on a regular basis to leadership, colleagues and stakeholders
• Learn new analytical methodologies for characterizing our products as needs arise
• Maintain required formula records and documentation
• Maintain ingredient inventory and lab equipment in working order

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3-5 years of relevant industry experience, solid working knowledge of flavor ingredients
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in compounding flavor ingredients at the bench
• Exceptional attention to detail, record keeping and documentation, adhering to ALCOA practices
• Strong communicator, works effectively with peers and management alike in a fast-paced environment
• Collaborative, works effectively in a team environment
• Knowledge/hands-on experience with chromatographic techniques and instrumentation is a plus
• Experience in formulations chemistry and stability testing methods is a plus
• Experience in a regulated or tobacco industry is a plus

EDUCATION:

• BS/MS in chemistry, biology, food science, or related field

SALARY RANGES:
Salary varies by role, level and location, and is dependent on the cost of labor in a given
geographic region among other factors. These ranges may be modified at any time.

SALARY RANGE:
$143,000.00 - $175,000.00 USD
