At FORT, we are dedicated to bridging the gap between people and machines in modern, dynamic work environments. Our platform provides the secure, reliable control necessary to manage autonomous systems, moving well beyond legacy technology to support next-generation AI. By developing critical tools like our Wireless E-Stop and Safe Remote Control, we help operators manage heavy machinery with confidence and precision. We are looking for someone to join our mission of protecting people, data, and machines by ensuring communications integrity across every network.
What is this role?
We are searching for a Firmware Team Lead to join our Device Platform team on a full-time, on-site basis in the United States. This is a senior-level, player-coach position that blends hands-on technical development with leadership responsibilities. You will guide a group of four talented embedded software engineers, helping them grow while you contribute directly to the foundational software that powers our innovative hardware.
What will you do?
- Lead and mentor: You will provide technical guidance to your team, offering regular coaching and support to help each engineer reach their full potential and advance their technical skills.
- Drive project success: Working closely with our Product Owner, you will define project roadmaps, prioritize tasks, manage resources, and ensure we meet our deadlines while maintaining high quality.
- Build and maintain: You will remain hands-on by actively participating in the design, coding, testing, and documentation of our embedded software platform, ensuring all work meets our rigorous safety and security standards.
What makes you a great fit?
To succeed in this role, you should have a deep background in engineering and a passion for building safe, secure systems. We are looking for the following qualities and skills:
- Technical foundation: You bring over 8 years of experience in embedded software development, with at least 4 of those years spent in a leadership capacity. You are highly proficient in C/C++, RTOS, and embedded Linux.
- Safety and security mindset: You have a solid grasp of safety-critical systems and understand how to implement security best practices in embedded devices.
- Collaborative approach: You are comfortable working within Agile methodologies and possess the communication skills needed to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Education: You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Bonus points: We would love to see your experience with IoT devices and cloud connectivity.
What's in it for you?
We offer a competitive annual salary range of $120,000 to $170,000, depending on your specific experience and qualifications. In addition to your compensation, you will enjoy the following benefits:
- Unlimited vacation to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance.
- Stock options so you can share in the long-term success of the company.
- Comprehensive medical insurance to support your health and well-being.
