Teck Resources Limited is a prominent Canadian resource company dedicated to the responsible production of metals vital for global development and the energy transition. We are seeking an Engineering Systems Co-op to join our team for an eight-month internship starting January 6, 2025, where you will support our Mine Planning, Design, and Geology department through hands-on technical projects and professional mentorship.
Responsibilities
- Champion safety and environmental standards by adhering to all company procedures.
- Develop, configure, and maintain software solutions for mine planning, scheduling, geology, and environmental systems.
- Manage the full lifecycle of system improvements, including incident resolution and defect management.
- Collaborate with our Digital Operations and Technology and Innovation teams to deliver high-quality technical resources.
- Conduct rigorous software testing, quality assurance, and integration to ensure system reliability.
- Create comprehensive system specifications and design documentation.
- Engage with vendors and provide application support to resolve technical issues.
- Gather functional requirements and optimize business processes to meet operational needs.
- Estimate development timelines and lead small to medium-scale software implementations.
Must-haves
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate program for Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Sciences, or Geology.
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, including experience with data modeling and ERDs.
- Technical background in software development, including T-SQL, SQL Server, SSRS, and Power BI.
- Proven ability to analyze requirements and learn new technologies or platforms quickly.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A proactive, flexible, and collaborative work ethic.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Nice-to-haves
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Experience with Azure Cloud environments, Data Science, or DevOps practices.
- Familiarity with .NET technologies, VBA, or Perl.
- Background in open-pit mining or geology.
- Experience with desktop support, SCCM, or SCOM.
