We are Meati, a Colorado-based company dedicated to creating Good Energy from the ground up. We specialize in producing nutrient-dense, whole-food protein derived from mycelium, offering a clean and delicious alternative that honors nature. As we continue to grow within the plant-based protein sector, we are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis. In this role, you will lead our process engineering efforts, ensuring our fermentation, production, and packaging operations are safe, scalable, and highly efficient.
Key outcomes
- Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of process engineers focused on fermentation and food production workflows.
- Drive operational excellence by overseeing process optimization, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage the full lifecycle of capital engineering projects, from initial concept and equipment specification to installation and final commissioning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Operations, Quality, Maintenance, R&D, and EHS to maintain high product quality and plant performance.
- Establish and maintain standard operating procedures and validation protocols that adhere to GMP, food safety, and regulatory standards.
- Monitor key performance indicators to track throughput, yield, and downtime, while leading root cause analysis for any process deviations.
- Cultivate a workplace culture centered on safety, innovation, and accountability.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Food Engineering, or a related technical field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 7 years of professional experience in fermentation-based operations or food manufacturing.
- A minimum of 2 years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
- Proven success in managing capital upgrades, process improvement projects, and cross-functional teams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of sanitary design, food packaging, fermentation processes, and regulatory compliance requirements like USDA and FDA guidelines.
- Technical proficiency with data analysis, process modeling, and engineering software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Strong communication and project management skills.

Compensation
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $110,000 to $155,000, depending on your specific skills, experience, and location. Our benefits package includes:
