We are building something different at Ashby. We believe that talented engineers do their best work when they are given true ownership, not when they are buried under rigid processes or endless tickets. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join our team and help us foster an environment that is optimistic, high-trust, and focused on empowering our people to achieve great things. If you are a leader who values technical depth and wants to help us build a culture that defies the status quo, we want to hear from you.
Role at a glance
This is a full-time, senior-level leadership position based remotely. You will be joining our growing European engineering team to help manage and mentor our talented group of 25+ engineers. We are looking for someone who is hands-on, passionate about technical challenges, and ready to help us scale our impact while maintaining the high-autonomy culture that makes Ashby special.
Your impact
- Build and mentor a high-performing team by focusing on individual growth, skill development, and creating an environment where engineers can thrive with minimal distractions.
- Influence product and technical direction by coaching individual contributors to own their projects, identify scope, and make high-quality decisions independently.
- Stay hands-on with our systems, whether you are debugging customer issues, shipping small fixes, or improving our internal developer experience to keep your technical skills sharp.
What you'll need
We are looking for a leader who is as passionate about management as they are about engineering. You should be an excellent and empathetic communicator who knows how to navigate complex team dynamics and provide meaningful feedback. You should have a deep understanding of what makes exceptional engineers tick and a desire to build systems that make our team more effective. While we do not require specific prior experience with our stack, you should be comfortable working with TypeScript, Node.js, React, GraphQL, Postgres, and Redis. Most importantly, you must be someone who thrives in a high-autonomy environment and is excited to challenge the traditional industry approach to engineering management.
Perks and compensation
We are committed to supporting our team members both professionally and personally. Our benefits package includes:
- Competitive salary and equity compensation.
- Stock options with a 10-year exercise window, giving you the flexibility to decide when you are financially comfortable purchasing them.
- Unlimited vacation and paid time off, with a strong culture of encouraging everyone to take at least four weeks per year.
- A dedicated learning budget of $100 per month, with additional support for conferences and larger educational investments.
- A generous home office budget to ensure you have the equipment and furniture you need to be happy and productive.
- The flexibility of a fully remote work environment.
