Engineering Manager at Metabase

The role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our fully distributed team. This is a full-time, remote position open to candidates anywhere in the world. We are seeking a mid-level leader who is passionate about building high-performing teams and advancing the state of the art in our industry. You will play a critical role in shaping our engineering culture and ensuring we continue to deliver high-quality, user-focused software.

Core responsibilities

• Foster a culture of continuous improvement that prioritizes execution cadence, high-quality work, and team happiness.
• Identify, attract, onboard, and mentor top-tier individual contributors to grow our engineering organization.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Customer Success teams to scope projects, balance feature development with technical debt, and ensure we meet our roadmap goals.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

• At least 2 years of experience in engineering management or a comparable role where you have demonstrated the ability to build teams and support career development.
• Strong communication skills, with a specific focus on written communication to support our asynchronous, distributed workflow.
• A deep technical background in either Clojure or the React and TypeScript frontend ecosystem.
• The ability to analyze project execution to identify bottlenecks in people, processes, or scope.
• Strong product sensibilities that allow you to translate designs and proposals into clear engineering requirements while mitigating technical risks.
