Engineering Manager at Baton (A Ryder Technology Lab)

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to guide a talented group of engineers building digital tools that cut waste from freight and trucking operations at Baton, the innovation lab of Ryder.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers while fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Take part in hiring, run performance reviews, and create development plans that help engineers advance their careers.
• Plan and oversee project execution by setting priorities, managing scope and risk, and coordinating resources to deliver features on time.
• Champion best practices in coding, architecture, and design while refining our engineering processes.
• Partner with tech leads and cross-functional stakeholders to keep engineering work aligned with product, design, and business goals.
• Build coaching and mentoring programs that support continuous skill growth across the team.

Must-haves

• At least two years of experience managing a product engineering team with six or more direct reports.
• At least five years of full-time experience as a software engineer or developer.
• Strong working knowledge of distributed software systems.
• Proficiency with Python.
• Fluency in English.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience building customer-facing web applications with Python, React, or similar modern web technologies.

Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is $205,000 - $307,000. In addition to base salary, full-time employees are eligible for an annual performance bonus.
