Engineering Manager at Relay Commerce

What you bring

As an Engineering Manager, you will oversee the technical and delivery output of our teams while balancing the needs of our people, our products, and our technical architecture. This is a full-time, remote position that can be performed from anywhere. Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Leading two teams of 6 to 10 engineers, providing consistent coaching, feedback, and support to foster their professional growth.
• Partnering with product and technical stakeholders to define, prioritize, and articulate complex technical goals and features.
• Maintaining a strong technical pulse by dedicating 10 to 20 percent of your time to hands-on work with our systems, including JavaScript, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and AWS infrastructure.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate who thrives in ambiguous environments and possesses a strong sense of ownership. You should have at least 7 years of senior-level experience in full-stack JavaScript development and a deep understanding of observability principles. We value clear, succinct communication and a strategic mindset that balances immediate project needs with long-term vision. While not strictly required, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is highly desirable, as is prior experience within the e-commerce sector or with platforms like Shopify and WooCommerce. You must be comfortable leading through influence, inspiring your team, and making data-driven decisions that prioritize high-impact outcomes.
