At Fonoa, we are redefining how digital-first organizations manage tax compliance. By providing modular, intuitive API solutions, we help businesses eliminate manual workflows, increase operational efficiency, and reduce costs as they scale internationally. We are tackling one of the most significant challenges in global e-commerce, and our technology currently powers tax automation for industry leaders such as Uber, Zoom, Booking.com, Squarespace, and Rappi. As a high-growth company ranked fifth on Sifted’s 2023 list of rising B2B SaaS startups, we are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our fully remote, global team.
Key outcomes

- Partner closely with Product Managers to co-own and drive the product roadmap.
- Oversee daily tactical operations, including hiring, onboarding, professional development, and mentorship of your team members.
- Collaborate with the CTO and other engineering leaders to define and implement high-level strategy and engineering culture.
- Continuously refine our API products to ensure they provide the best possible experience and capabilities for our users.
- Analyze the complexities of manual tax lifecycles and guide your team in developing systems that modernize these processes.
Requirements
- Full professional proficiency in English, as our distributed team operates in a global, English-speaking environment.
- A strong commitment to distributed and asynchronous work, prioritizing documentation and clear communication over ad-hoc meetings.
- A people-first mindset with a proven ability to hire, retain, and develop talent through consistent, constructive feedback.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and a builder’s mentality, with a desire to make a long-term impact in a fast-paced startup.
- Experience or a strong desire to learn how to scale and operate large-scale microservices in high-growth, high-load environments.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages, with specific experience in Go and TypeScript being highly relevant to our current codebase.
- A data-driven approach to decision-making and a passion for optimizing processes to increase speed without sacrificing quality.
- Comfort with change, shifting priorities, and challenging the status quo to drive meaningful improvement.
Compensation
We offer a competitive base salary for this position, which we determine based on your specific experience. In addition to your salary, we provide equity compensation to ensure all our team members are invested in our collective success. We also embrace a fully remote work culture, allowing you to contribute from anywhere in the world.
