The opportunity

We need an Engineering Manager who will spend most of each week writing and reviewing code, yet also coach a talented group of developers. Your technical leadership will shape how we observe and improve the internet experience for companies that millions of people rely on every day. Because we operate as an R&D function inside Catchpoint, the Internet Resilience Company, you will see your designs move quickly from prototype to production and directly affect how our customers keep their sites and services resilient.

A day in the life

• You might start the morning reviewing a pull request that adds new monitoring for an emerging browser, then spend time pairing with a teammate who is tracing a tricky multi-threaded issue on Linux.
• After lunch you join a cross-team meeting with product managers and support engineers to clarify how a new micro-service should report performance data, making sure the design supports both rapid iteration and long-term stability.
• Later in the afternoon you set aside time for one-on-ones, helping a developer break down a large feature into clear user stories and guiding the team on how to estimate work more accurately.

Who you are

You bring at least ten years of hands-on software development experience and have spent at least two of those years leading an agile engineering team. You are comfortable spending 60–70 percent of your time designing and coding, especially in C++ across Windows, Linux, and macOS. You have built and troubleshot micro-services, applied multi-threading and design patterns, and you understand the details of TCP/IP protocols and how to administer and debug both Windows and common Linux distributions. Experience with C# and .NET Core is a plus. A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is required; a master’s is preferred. You are fluent in English, eager to learn new technologies quickly, and you enjoy working remotely with colleagues around the world.
