The role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team on a full-time basis in Australia. This is a newly created position that reflects our rapid growth and expansion. You will report to the Head of Engineering and take charge of engineering activities for our Boulder Opal product and our shared Quantum Platform services. This is a hybrid role where you will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineering teams to navigate a dynamic, high-stakes environment. While your primary focus is leadership and delivery, your background as a software engineer will be essential for providing architectural guidance.

Core responsibilities

• Lead and support the career growth of software engineers at all levels while fostering a productive team culture.
• Own the resourcing and delivery plans for your teams, working in tandem with product and design leads to ensure alignment on goals and progress.
• Identify and remove technical or process-related blockers to keep our development cycles moving efficiently.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you should bring a blend of technical depth and people leadership. We are looking for candidates who possess:

• At least 3 years of industry experience in a people leadership role within a software engineering discipline.
• A strong background as an individual contributor in software engineering, with the ability to provide valuable feedback on system design and architecture.
• Experience supporting 24/7 SaaS product development.
• A passion for project management, as we do not employ dedicated Scrum Masters or project managers.
• A proven track record of leading high-performing teams to achieve measurable outcomes.
• Bonus points for experience with Python, High Performance Computing, or research and development environments.
