At Chromatic we build tools that help front-end teams ship reliable, high-quality interfaces at scale. Our platform works alongside Storybook to give thousands of teams-including BBC, Shopify, and Adobe-the visibility they need to catch visual and functional issues before code reaches millions of users. We’re now looking for an engineering manager who will guide a cross-functional team building the customer-facing features that power UI testing and review workflows.
What you'll be doing
- Lead a team of 6-10 engineers, guiding project planning and delivery so that every release supports clear business goals and improves the experience for developers worldwide.
- Partner with product, design, and peer engineering managers to set priorities, remove obstacles, and keep work moving smoothly across time zones in a remote-first setting.
- Mentor individual contributors, shape onboarding practices, and help grow the team while contributing to the broader engineering culture and processes at Chromatic.
What you'll bring
- At least three years of experience managing a software engineering team, with a track record of delivering projects that balance speed and thoughtful decision-making.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills that support productive collaboration in a distributed, asynchronous environment.
- Empathy and interpersonal awareness to lead teammates across different locations, paired with the ability to give and receive feedback openly.
- A growth mindset that welcomes new challenges, stays accountable to commitments, and keeps the team focused even when plans shift.
- Genuine interest in developer experience, whether you have built tools for developers or have spent time understanding the day-to-day realities of front-end teams.
- Fluency in English.
What you'll get
We offer a salary range of US$185K - US$207K along with equity compensation. You’ll also enjoy the flexibility of remote work from anywhere in the mainland United States or Canada.
