At Yardzen, we believe that people are at their best when they spend time outdoors. Since our launch in 2018, we have helped thousands of homeowners transform their yards into sustainable, beautiful spaces that enhance property value and improve quality of life. We are currently disrupting the 200 billion dollar outdoor renovation industry by using data, AI, and modern technology to provide a seamless, transparent design-build experience. Our work has been recognized by outlets like The New York Times, Architectural Digest, and Forbes, and we are proud to be named one of Inc. Magazine’s Best Places to Work. We are looking for a passionate, focused leader to join our mission as we continue to grow.
The opportunity
We are seeking a bold and compassionate Engineering Manager to lead a small, high-performing squad. This is a true player-coach role where you will balance hands-on technical contributions with the mentorship of your team. You will partner closely with our product and design departments to build innovative customer-facing features and internal tools that drive our business forward. By joining us, you will help shape the culture of our engineering organization while working with a modern stack that includes React, NextJS, Node, and Postgres.
A day in the life
- Provide technical leadership by guiding architectural decisions, contributing significant code, and ensuring our projects are aligned with business impact.
- Support the growth of your team through regular 1:1 meetings, where you will set clear expectations, offer constructive feedback, and help developers navigate both technical and personal challenges.
- Drive engineering excellence by championing best practices, streamlining development workflows, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement through code reviews and technical discussions.
Who you are
You are a collaborative professional with at least 7 years of experience in software development, including 3 years in a senior individual contributor role and 2 years in a leadership or management capacity. You possess a strong grasp of full-stack development and are comfortable working through ambiguous requirements to find elegant technical solutions. You communicate clearly in English and have a deep empathy for the end user, ensuring that the tools you build are both functional and delightful. You are well-versed in Agile principles and have a proven track record of holding teams accountable while maintaining a focus on security, accessibility, and high-quality code.
