Gauntlet is a leader in quantitative research and DeFi economics optimization, specializing in risk management, growth facilitation, and ensuring the economic robustness of key DeFi protocols. Managing over $13 billion in customer TVL as of January 2024, our efforts are vital to the industry's leading protocols.

We are known for our significant research contributions, paralleling the impact of top academic institutions in DeFi. As a Series B company with a 60-member team, we operate on a remote-first basis from New York City.

Our mission is to drive adoption and understanding in the financial systems of the future. The unique challenges of decentralized systems call for innovative approaches in mechanism design, smart contract development, and financial product utilization. Gauntlet leads in advancing this knowledge, ensuring safe progression through the evolving landscape of financial innovation.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of data scientists and software engineers to create impactful products.

Apply robust mathematical and theoretical principles to inform practical, effective product development decisions.

Maintain the highest quality standards across all data science and engineering initiatives.

Articulate and execute against clear product vision that aligns team goals and the broader objectives of the company.

Promote team growth and individual development, fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

5+ years of technical modeling or analysis experience, ideally developing or interfacing directly with production systems; 1+ years of direct management experience

Proven ability to mentor and coach junior engineers

Ability to balance long-term thinking and planning with short-term execution on tactical goals

High standard for engineering excellence and experience creating processes and an environment where team members can do their best work

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Has leadership experience in data science or software engineering, preferably with knowledge in optimization theory, mechanism design, or computational economics.

Possesses a solid mathematical and theoretical background, applicable in practical settings.

Is effective at communicating clear goals and strategies, rallying the team, partners, and customers around shared objectives.

Is dedicated to mentoring and supporting team development.

Prioritizes impact and quality, aiming to make significant contributions to the DeFi landscape.

The national pay range for this role is $200,000 plus additional On Target Earnings potential by level and equity in the company. Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for a company of our size and industry, and are one part of many compensation, benefits and other reward opportunities we provide. Individual pay rate decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skill set, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company.
