We are excited to invite you to join our Knowledge Enrichment team as an Engineering Manager. At BenchSci, we are dedicated to transforming scientific discovery by using machine learning to enrich our extensive Knowledge Graph, which helps researchers accelerate their work. You will report directly to our Director of Engineering for Data and ML, working in a role that bridges technical innovation with team leadership. We are looking for a hands-on leader who is passionate about mentoring others and driving complex projects forward in an environment that values state of the art technology.
What you'll be doing
- Lead, mentor, and coach a focused team of 4 to 6 machine learning and data engineers while conducting regular 1:1 meetings to support their professional growth.
- Remain technically active by contributing to system design, data modeling, code reviews, and the creation of technical design documents alongside your team.
- Drive the technical roadmap for your team, ensuring our machine learning initiatives align with broader product goals and company-wide engineering standards.
What you'll bring
To succeed in this role, you should have a strong background in machine learning and a proven ability to lead technical teams. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- Over 5 years of professional experience as an ML engineer, including at least 3 years in technical leadership and 2 years specifically in an ML management capacity.
- Deep technical expertise in Python, software engineering, and the ability to architect complex systems from the ground up.
- Advanced knowledge of large language models, specifically Retrieval Augmented Generation, as well as experience with graph machine learning and neural networks.
- Expertise in training, fine-tuning, and deploying machine learning models at scale with a focus on efficiency.
- A growth mindset and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders in English.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and a track record of fostering high-performing team cultures.
