At HowGood, we believe that high-quality information is the foundation for making better decisions. As the world’s leading platform for food industry decarbonization, we partner with major organizations like Nestlé, Danone, and Chipotle to help them reach their sustainability goals. By joining our team, you will be part of a mission-driven company that is actively working to change global food systems and address the challenges of climate change.
What is this role?
We are looking for a Frontend Engineering Manager to join our team on a full-time, remote basis. This is a hands-on leadership position where you will spend approximately 20% of your time on management duties and 80% on individual contributor tasks. You will lead a talented group of engineers to build the user-facing applications that our Fortune 500 clients rely on to make critical sustainability decisions. This role is perfect for a seasoned professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges while fostering a supportive and high-performing team culture.
What will you do?
- Cultivate a supportive, inclusive team environment that prioritizes the professional growth, well-being, and continuous learning of every engineer.
- Take ownership of the quality and longevity of our codebase by advocating for patterns that are flexible, scalable, and easy for the team to maintain.
- Collaborate closely with product managers to refine our agile development processes, ensuring that our technical workflows align with business needs and team resources.
What makes you a great fit?
We are looking for someone who brings a deep understanding of modern web development and a passion for leadership. To be successful in this role, you should have:
- At least 5 years of experience working with modern JavaScript and TypeScript libraries in fast-paced production environments, specifically with React, Redux, Jest, and React Testing Library.
- At least 2 years of experience leading small teams or pods, whether in a formal managerial or technical lead capacity.
- A strong grasp of frontend architecture, state management, and best practices for organizing large-scale codebases.
- The ability to lead with empathy, mentor your peers, and present pragmatic technical solutions that incorporate feedback from the wider team.
- Proficiency in English and the ability to overlap your working hours with US Eastern Time.
While not required, experience with Cypress.io, Vite, NodeJS, and Docker is highly valued, as is a willingness to occasionally assist with backend service debugging.
What's in it for you?
We offer a competitive salary range of 170,000 to 190,000 USD, along with equity. Our benefits package is designed to support your health, long-term security, and work-life balance:
- Comprehensive health, vision insurance, and dental insurance.
- 401k retirement plan with company matching.
- Unlimited vacation policy that we genuinely encourage you to use.
- The flexibility to work remotely from anywhere, provided you can coordinate with US Eastern Time hours.
