Engineering Manager, Distributed Data Systems at Onehouse

What is this role?

We are seeking an Engineering Manager for Distributed Data Systems to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a management-level role that requires a player-coach mindset. You will work in a hybrid capacity, helping us bridge the gap between open-source innovation and enterprise-grade solutions. If you are not local to the Bay Area, you should be prepared to relocate within 45 days, with a relocation package provided to support your move.

What will you do?

• Define the vision for our data infrastructure team and empower them to build and productionize the next generation of our data tech stack.
• Balance hands-on technical contributions with people management, setting a high bar for code quality and design while mentoring engineers to become future leaders.
• Accelerate our open-source and enterprise flywheel by working directly on the core of the Apache Hudi transactional engine to optimize performance for diverse customer workloads.

What makes you a great fit?

You are a seasoned professional with a strong technical background and a passion for leadership. To succeed in this role, you should possess the following:

• Technical Expertise: At least 8 to 10 years of software engineering experience using Java, including 5 or more years focused on data systems.
• System Depth: Proven experience building large-scale distributed systems, specifically with the inner workings of distributed databases or large-scale data compute and processing frameworks.
• Leadership & Management: At least 1 year of experience leading teams in the data space, with a track record of mentoring others and fostering a high-performance culture.
• Project Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, execute, and deliver complex projects on time.
• Communication: The ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and keep teams aligned with our company vision.
