The role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Lead to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a hybrid position based out of our London office in Monument, where you will be expected to work on-site two days per week. In this leadership role, you will take ownership of a cross-functional squad, driving technical delivery while mentoring a group of talented engineers. You will play a hands-on part in shaping the architecture of our SaaS underwriting workbench, working closely with product and design teams to build features that meet the evolving needs of the insurance market.

• Lead a cross-functional engineering squad to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality, scalable software solutions.
• Provide hands-on technical guidance, including architectural decision-making, code reviews, and the promotion of development best practices.
• Coach and mentor team members to support their professional growth while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and transparent team culture.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and technical expertise:

• Strong hands-on experience with Java, particularly using Spring Boot within a microservices architecture.
• Proven experience leading or managing engineering teams, ideally within a high-growth SaaS, fintech, or insurtech environment.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, system design, and backend development.
• Proficiency with relational databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure and containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience managing CI/CD pipelines and a commitment to test automation and clean code practices.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Compensation and benefits
