The role
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Lead to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a hybrid position based out of our London office in Monument, where you will be expected to work on-site two days per week. In this leadership role, you will take ownership of a cross-functional squad, driving technical delivery while mentoring a group of talented engineers. You will play a hands-on part in shaping the architecture of our SaaS underwriting workbench, working closely with product and design teams to build features that meet the evolving needs of the insurance market.
Core responsibilities
- Lead a cross-functional engineering squad to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality, scalable software solutions.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance, including architectural decision-making, code reviews, and the promotion of development best practices.
- Coach and mentor team members to support their professional growth while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and transparent team culture.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and technical expertise:
- Strong hands-on experience with Java, particularly using Spring Boot within a microservices architecture.
- Proven experience leading or managing engineering teams, ideally within a high-growth SaaS, fintech, or insurtech environment.
- Deep understanding of software architecture, system design, and backend development.
- Proficiency with relational databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure and containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience managing CI/CD pipelines and a commitment to test automation and clean code practices.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Compensation and benefits
