At Ashby, we believe that the best software is built by people who can bridge the gap between creative design and technical execution. Our mission is to improve the productivity of talent teams and other working professionals by building intelligent, powerful tools that are both approachable for beginners and deep enough for power users. We are backed by incredible investors like YCombinator, Elad Gil, and Lachy Groom, and we are growing rapidly. We are looking for a talented individual who wants to own the design and build process from start to finish, rather than being forced to choose between the two.
About the Role
We are searching for a Lead Engineer Who Can Design to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a staff-level position where you will tackle our most complex design challenges, enhance our internal design system, and provide expert consultation on bespoke projects. You will have the autonomy to own your work from the initial user conversation and product specification through to the final UX design and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance and expand our in-house design system to improve the quality and consistency of our product interface.
- Collaborate directly with users to wireframe new flows and translate those concepts into high-quality, functional code.
- Consult on bespoke design work and mentor other engineers to improve the information hierarchy and scannability of our software features.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should have at least 5 years of experience as a full-time frontend engineer, or a background that is evenly split between frontend development and design. We are looking for someone with significant experience leading or contributing to design systems. You should possess deep technical expertise in the following areas:
- TypeScript, React, HTML, and CSS.
- Experience with GraphQL, Node.js, Postgres, and Redis.
- A proven ability to iterate on design ideas directly within the codebase.
Location
This is a remote position, and we are happy to accept applications from candidates located anywhere.
Compensation and Benefits
We are committed to creating an environment where our team feels challenged and supported. Our benefits package includes:
- Equity compensation, including a 10-year exercise window for stock options.
- Unlimited vacation policy with a recommendation of four weeks per year.
- Comprehensive maternity and paternity leave.
- A generous home office budget for equipment, software, and furniture.
- A monthly learning budget to support your professional development.
- Medical insurance coverage.
- The flexibility of a fully remote work environment.
