We are Providence, one of the largest not-for-profit health systems in the United States. Our Digital Innovation Group operates as both a healthcare startup and a technology incubator, building next-generation tools that give patients convenient access to care anywhere and anytime. Recent spin-outs such as DexCare and Praia Health demonstrate how we turn promising ideas into funded companies, and we invite leaders who want to shape the next wave of healthcare technology from the ground floor.
About the Role
Director, Software Engineering, Cloud Platform is a full-time, on-site leadership position. You will define the product and technology vision for a shared cloud platform that supports both internal incubation efforts and external startups, guiding teams that deliver secure, scalable infrastructure for healthcare solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish the overall architecture and success metrics for a cloud-native infrastructure-as-code engineering team, ensuring velocity, code quality, and operational effectiveness across multiple product verticals.
- Lead site-reliability and operations groups to deliver repeatable, privacy-first cloud infrastructure while maintaining compliance with frameworks such as NIST, ISO, HITRUST, and SOC 2.
- Build and mentor a world-class engineering organization, setting hiring standards, conducting performance reviews, and fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and continuous professional growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; a master’s degree or Ph.D. is preferred.
- At least ten years of experience shipping production systems on cloud-native infrastructure such as Kubernetes, with a strong preference for Azure environments, plus three or more years leading first-level engineering managers and their teams.
- Proven success building Infrastructure-as-Code platforms that scale across multiple application stacks and customer environments using tools such as Terraform.
- Demonstrated expertise in systems, network, and application security-including threat modeling, defensive practices, penetration testing, and chaos engineering-along with the ability to communicate effectively with executives, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders in global settings.
Location
This position is based in the United States and requires on-site presence.
Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range is $96.83 – $164.86 per hour; additional compensation may include shift differentials, standby or on-call pay, overtime, premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Remote work is available as a benefit.
