Director, Platform Engineering at Waveapps

The role

We are seeking a Director, Platform Engineering to join us in a full-time, remote capacity. This is a senior leadership position where you will oversee the end-to-end health of the shared infrastructure and platforms that power our products. You will guide four distinct teams, including DevOps, Backend, Frontend, and Mobile platform, to ensure our services remain resilient, secure, and highly available. We are looking for a leader who thrives in a customer-focused environment and can align our technical strategy with our broader business objectives.

Core responsibilities

• Team Leadership and Development: Mentor and grow a team of engineers and managers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture that prioritizes the needs of our users.
• Ownership of Core Engineering Functions: Take full responsibility for our observability, CI/CD pipelines, core infrastructure abstractions, and shared tooling.
• Platform Engineering Excellence: Optimize our platform tooling to simplify the developer experience, while defining and improving core metrics to ensure we are delivering consistent and stable services.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you should bring a strong background in technical leadership and software development. We value the following qualifications:

• Over 10 years of experience in software development, specifically with distributed production systems at scale.
• At least 5 years of experience managing multiple engineering teams within a cloud infrastructure environment, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Deep expertise in DevOps tooling, site reliability, observability, and product engineering.
• Strong knowledge of back-end engineering, including microservices, REST APIs, and both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Proficiency in modern software development processes like Agile.
• Experience with SaaS or FinTech organizations is considered an ideal asset.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks like SOC, PCI, or HIPAA, as well as experience managing offshore teams, is a plus.
