Director, Platform Engineering - Data / AI at C3 AI

C3 AI is looking for engineering managers to provide leadership and direction for development teams in the Platform engineering department. You will be part of a fast-moving organization with highly motivated engineers who tackle challenging and impactful problems. The management position is highly visible, will entail frequent communication and interactions with the senior leadership team, and require a driven individual to develop and shape the product roadmap and strategic team goals.

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Platform Engineering - Data Infrastructure to lead our data infrastructure team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling our data infrastructure platform to support the needs of our organization's data-driven initiatives. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of our data infrastructure while driving innovation and continuous improvement. 

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of talented platform engineers responsible for designing, building, and maintaining our data infrastructure platform.
• Define and drive the strategic direction and roadmap for data and AI initiatives in alignment with business objectives.
• Architect and design scalable and robust data and AI infrastructure to support the organization's data-driven initiatives.
• Interface and communicate regularly with senior management and technical architects.
• Establish and maintain performance monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting mechanisms to ensure the reliability and availability of our data infrastructure platform.
• Collaborate with talent acquisition to grow the team.
• Collaborate with technical leads and product managers on prioritization and roadmap plans.
• Work cross-functionally to prioritize work items, track progress, and deliver commitments.
• Express interest and be a hands-on contributor during the entire development cycle, from conception and design through release.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, advanced degree preferred.
• 12+ years of work experience in a software company in the domain of distributed systems, data infrastructure, data analytics, AI/ML platforms, etc.
• 6+ years of leadership/experience managing highly technical teams.
• Strong technical background in data engineering, machine learning, statistics, and AI technologies.
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment with a willingness to dive deep and get things done.
• Demonstrated experience in project management and tools such as Jira, Azure Boards, etc.
• High level of expertise in agile software development and exhibited end-to-end ownership of projects.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Experience with distributed systems, data infrastructure, and public cloud platforms.
• Extensive software design and architecture skills, preferably in large-scale distributed systems.
• Hands on experience with programming skills in Java, C++, C# and/or Python.
