Magrathea is a California-based technology company dedicated to transforming the production of structural metal by creating carbon-neutral magnesium from seawater and brines. We are backed by world-class investors, including early supporters of SpaceX and Tesla, and we are looking for a Director of Technology to join our on-site team in the United States to help us drive the next phase of our innovative electrolytic process.

Responsibilities

Lead the ideation, development, and execution of both internal and government-funded R&D projects to advance our technology.
Provide technical direction and guidance to the team operating our metal production pilot line.
Manage our analytical lab and offer hands-on support for developing new analytical techniques.
Collaborate closely with the Director of Engineering to scale our technology and generate the data required for upcoming demonstrations.
Oversee project management for the R&D team to ensure all deliverables and data insights meet critical deadlines.

Must-haves

An MS or PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience with inorganic chemistry and pilot plant operations.
A track record of managing research or pilot teams, including the project management of complex technical initiatives.
Proficiency in analytical techniques such as ICP-OES, TGA, titrations, dissolved organic measurements, and aqueous analytical calibrations.
A creative, open-minded approach with a strong ability to learn quickly.
A history of fostering a company culture built on humility, transparency, and respect.
Fluency in English.

Benefits

The annual salary range for this position is $100,000 to $170,000, depending on your experience.
