We are Magrathea, a California-based technology company dedicated to transforming how we produce structural metal. Our mission is to drastically lower the environmental and social impact of metal production by creating a new electrolytic process that generates carbon-neutral magnesium from seawater and brines. We are fortunate to be backed by some of the most prominent investors in the energy and materials sectors, including early supporters of SpaceX and Tesla, as well as industrial partners across Europe and the United States. We are looking for a driven Director of Technology to join our team and help us push the boundaries of what is possible in sustainable manufacturing.
What you'll be doing
- You will take the lead on ideating, developing, and executing both internal and government-funded R&D projects aimed at advancing our core technology.
- You will manage the team responsible for our metal production pilot line, offering technical direction and hands-on problem solving to keep operations running smoothly.
- You will oversee our analytical lab, providing direct support for the development of new analytical techniques and ensuring our data meets the rigorous standards required for scaling our technology.
What you'll bring
To succeed in this role, you should have a strong background in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field, ideally holding an MS or PhD. We are looking for someone who possesses the following qualifications:
- Proven experience in pilot plant operations and a deep understanding of inorganic chemistry.
- A track record of effective project management, specifically in leading research or pilot teams toward ambitious technical goals.
- Proficiency with analytical techniques such as ICP-OES, titrations, TGA, and other aqueous analytical methods.
- Excellent communication skills in English and a collaborative mindset that prioritizes transparency, humility, and the success of your colleagues.
- A creative, open-minded approach to problem-solving and a willingness to learn new concepts rapidly.
What you'll get
We offer a salary range of $100,000 to $170,000 per year, depending on your experience. In addition to your salary, you will receive the following benefits:
- A competitive stock option package.
- A 401k plan with both pre-tax and post-tax investment options.
- Comprehensive health insurance coverage.
