At Xilis, we are on a mission to transform cancer care by industrializing our proprietary MicroOrganoSphere technology. This innovation-driven biotech company focuses on functional precision oncology, using patient-specific tumor models to guide the right treatments to the right patients. Based in Research Triangle Park, Durham, we are building a sophisticated platform that combines multi-modal profiling with artificial intelligence to accelerate drug discovery. We are looking for a visionary leader to join us as our Director of Software Engineering and help us build the infrastructure that will turn complex biological data into actionable insights.
What you'll be doing
- You will lead and mentor our software engineering team, defining headcount needs and fostering a culture of technical excellence through design and code reviews.
- You will oversee the architecture and implementation of our data management infrastructure, including the integration of Laboratory Information Management Systems with our custom hardware and software.
- You will drive cross-functional collaboration with our Research and Development and Data Science teams to ensure our software solutions effectively support our wet and dry lab processes while managing our AWS cloud environment and DevOps initiatives.
What you'll bring
To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong foundation in software engineering and a passion for the intersection of technology and biology. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with a Master's degree preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, including at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
- Deep expertise in software architecture, design patterns, and cloud infrastructure, specifically using AWS and Python.
- A background in biotech or healthcare software development, with a strong understanding of data management and visualization.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment.
- Fluency in English.
