Are you ready to lead the technology that will help uncover the critical metals powering the future of clean energy? At KoBold, we combine advanced AI with real-world exploration to locate the mineral deposits the world needs most, and we are looking for a Director of Scientific Computing to guide that mission.
What you bring
We are looking for a Director-level leader to guide our scientific computing efforts on a full-time, remote basis. You will bring deep expertise in software engineering, machine learning, distributed computing, performance optimization, Python, and statistical techniques, and you will apply those skills to challenges such as continent-scale satellite data, deep-learning geophysics emulators, and cloud-hosted 3D visualization tools. Your work will directly support our data scientists and geoscientists as they identify and evaluate new mineral targets around the globe. Three key responsibilities include setting the technical roadmap for the scientific computing team, managing a fully remote group of five to ten engineers, and developing and deploying machine learning and physics-based models that guide multibillion-dollar exploration decisions. This role is open to candidates located anywhere.
Requirements
The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with excellent communication skills and a genuine curiosity about both software and earth science. You will need extensive hands-on experience building and deploying cutting-edge machine learning models on large, messy scientific datasets, along with proven fluency in distributed and high-performance computing and modern Python development practices. An advanced degree in the physical sciences, engineering, computer science, or mathematics is required, as is post-degree technical leadership experience that includes scientific applications of machine learning. Beyond technical qualifications, we value candidates who demonstrate high intellectual rigor, quickly synthesize complex information, and thrive in a fast-moving early-stage environment where priorities shift and new challenges appear daily. English fluency is essential.
What we offer
The US base salary range for this full-time exempt position is $240,000-$300,000. In addition to competitive compensation, we provide the flexibility of remote work so you can contribute from anywhere while collaborating with colleagues across disciplines and time zones.
- Remote-first culture with the freedom to work from anywhere
How to Apply
If this opportunity excites you, we encourage you to apply and help shape the future of mineral exploration. We look forward to learning more about your experience and how you can contribute to KoBold’s mission.
