Director of Product, Capital Platform at Upstart

The opportunity

As Director of Product for the Capital Platform you will shape the tools and experiences that bring loan-funding capital to our marketplace. You will own the full product vision for the banks, credit unions, private-equity funds, and hedge funds that supply capital, translating their needs into roadmaps that scale alongside our growing set of loan products. The role begins as a senior individual-contributor position and evolves into leadership of a dedicated product team, giving you the chance to both drive critical initiatives yourself and build a world-class group of product managers.

A day in the life

• Partnering with capital providers to uncover their priorities, then turning those insights into clear product requirements that balance platform-wide needs with the goals of individual loan verticals such as auto loans and HELOCs.
• Defining and sequencing the roadmap for oversight, analytics, configuration, and automation features that let lenders and investors manage their programs with precision and minimal manual work.
• Collaborating daily with sales, machine-learning, compliance, and engineering teams to ship new capabilities, while coaching product managers and helping them grow their own strategic impact.

Who you are

You bring at least eight years of product-management experience, including a proven record of building and leading high-performing teams while still rolling up your sleeves on principal-level work. You have guided complex B2B or B2B2C workflows-onboarding, payments, compliance-and have created business-critical tools inside marketplace environments such as ERP-style systems or embedded-finance platforms. You are comfortable engaging directly with senior leaders at banks, credit unions, and capital-markets firms to conduct discovery and shape strategy. A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, computer science, or a related field-or equivalent practical experience-rounds out your background. Experience building online financial products, working with consumer-banking or capital-markets teams, or collaborating with AI and data-science groups is a plus.
