Varda is opening the frontier of space by building the infrastructure needed to manufacture life-saving pharmaceuticals and advanced materials in orbit. We are looking for a Director of Portfolio Strategy to join our team in El Segundo, California, and help us shape the future of the orbital economy.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute a comprehensive portfolio management strategy for our research and development pipeline.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of portfolio managers and analysts while tracking key performance indicators.
- Perform competitive analysis to benchmark our R&D productivity and strategy against industry peers.
- Provide regular performance reports to senior leadership regarding R&D efficiency and value generation.
- Monitor market trends and regulatory developments to inform our long-term business processes.
- Partner with our business development team to identify and manage licensing and partnership opportunities.
- Collaborate with finance and operations to manage budgets, headcount, and infrastructure roadmaps.
- Drive strategic initiatives under the guidance of the Chief Science Officer to improve R&D effectiveness.
Must-haves
- An advanced degree, such as a Ph.D., in life sciences, physical sciences, or engineering.
- At least 7 years of professional experience within the biopharma industry.
- Proven ability to foster alignment and build partnerships across senior leadership teams.
- Strong program management and organizational capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Five or more years of experience specifically in portfolio strategy and management roles.
- A demonstrated track record of improving R&D portfolio metrics.
- Experience in service-oriented roles with a focus on customer management.
- A background in drug development, manufacturing, or formulation.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and building strong interpersonal relationships across departments.
Benefits
The salary range for this role is $140,000 to $220,000 per year.
