About the Role
We are looking for a Director of Mechanical Engineering to join us in a full-time, on-site capacity. In this executive-level position, you will lead our mechanical engineering efforts, overseeing the entire product development lifecycle. You will be responsible for managing, mentoring, and expanding our talented engineering team while ensuring our projects move from initial concepts to successful, high-quality product launches.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide new light electric vehicle products through every stage of development, including initial design, prototyping, and the new product introduction process.
- Oversee the allocation of team resources and project tasks to ensure we meet our goals on time and to our high standards.
- Collaborate with domestic and international vendors to manage manufacturing quotes, component sourcing, and quality assurance processes.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in mechanical engineering and a passion for electromechanical systems. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Between 7 and 15 years of professional experience, including time spent managing teams of 2 to 20 people.
- Deep proficiency in Solidworks and extensive experience with manufacturing processes like injection molding, die-casting, and CNC machining.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping and machine shop environments.
- A proven track record of taking products to market, ideally within the outdoor or electric vehicle industries.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to document complex drawing packages for internal and external use.
Location
This role is based at our office on the westside of Santa Cruz, California, located just half a mile from the beach.
