Axle Informatics is a scientific research and information technology company dedicated to providing innovative informatics, bioresearch solutions, and computer services to healthcare organizations and research centers worldwide. Our team consists of experts in bioinformatics, software engineering, and molecular research, all working together to empower the scientific community. We are proud to support some of the nation's most prestigious research facilities, including various institutes at the National Institutes of Health. We are currently seeking a Director of Infrastructure and Operations to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis at our North Bethesda location.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of 15 to 20 systems engineers and subject matter experts, taking charge of recruiting, mentoring, and managing personnel with diverse technical backgrounds.
- Oversee cross-functional teams focused on critical areas such as cloud services, server administration, storage, backup and recovery, and systems administration.
- Establish and enforce IT policies and procedures while monitoring system performance to ensure high levels of integrity, capacity, and availability across our infrastructure.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical or scientific field.
- At least 7 years of experience managing enterprise IT operations within complex, research-focused environments, including 4 years of direct supervisory experience.
- Strong technical proficiency in cloud solutions like AWS and Azure, as well as experience implementing DevOps and CI/CD environments.
- A solid background in ITSM, specifically with ITIL v4 certification or practical application of ITIL-based practices.
- Project management experience, supported by certifications such as PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, or CompTIA Project+.
- Excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to present complex technical information to C-level executives and diverse stakeholders.
