Director of Engineering at KUNGFU.AI

We are currently looking for a Director of Engineering to join our team of entrepreneurs and experienced engineers. While we operate as a remote company, we are prioritizing candidates based in Austin, Texas, to facilitate necessary in-person leadership meetings.

Key outcomes

• Provide both technical and non-technical mentorship to a team of 5-8 engineers, including conducting performance evaluations and regular one-on-one meetings.
• Collaborate with fellow engineering directors to define fiscal budgets, establish new processes, and implement engineering methodologies.
• Serve as a cultural steward by fostering a scalable, innovative, and psychologically safe engineering environment.
• Oversee technical risks across various projects and internal initiatives to ensure successful execution.
• Act as the primary technical authority on client engagements, managing key relationships and project artifacts.
• Work alongside delivery leaders in strategy, project management, and business development to drive client satisfaction and project success.
• Consult with our Growth team to scope prospective client needs and deliver effective solutions.
• Provide guidance on best practices for software engineering, architecture design, and machine learning.
• Manage resource planning, hiring, and project staffing requirements.

Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience in building and deploying production-grade machine learning solutions.
• Expertise in technologies such as object-oriented design, containerized deployments, cloud infrastructure, and common open-source machine learning libraries.
• A proven track record of mentorship and management, specifically regarding the growth of teams building ML systems.
• A deep commitment to servant leadership and the ability to build trusting, collaborative relationships.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical systems to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Fluency in English.

Preferred qualifications

• Previous experience working within early-stage companies where you have guided engineering teams through phases of significant growth.
