We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to join Everlaw as Director of Engineering. Everlaw builds technology that helps law firms, government agencies, and corporations review millions of documents during major lawsuits and investigations. Our platform processes hundreds of terabytes of data and supports all fifty state Attorneys General along with hundreds of law firms on high-profile matters. We combine advanced engineering with thoughtful design to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable tools in a field traditionally dominated by service-based vendors.
Key outcomes
- Guide the scalable, reliable, and secure development of the Everlaw platform by collaborating with Product, Design, DevOps, Security Engineering, and application engineering leads.
- Lead roadmapping, resourcing, and execution for critical platform initiatives while synthesizing requirements from multiple stakeholders.
- Partner with the Engineering Operations team to refine processes that support goal setting, empowerment, and consistent execution across engineering efforts.
- Coach direct reports and managers to deliver on projects and advance their professional development through targeted feedback and career support.
- Identify and address infrastructure, collaboration, and accountability challenges by working with cross-functional teams and engineering managers.
Requirements
- At least five years of experience as a software engineer, including hands-on work building applications or distributed systems.
- At least four years of people-management experience, with a minimum of three years managing engineers and one year managing other managers.
- Proven experience leading product engineering or full-stack teams and working with full-stack web technologies.
- Strong understanding of computer science principles related to system and software design.
- Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholder teams on product and application infrastructure topics.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
- Authorization to work in the United States; Everlaw is not currently sponsoring employment visas.
- Proficiency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Background in legal technology, document management, DevOps, or security engineering.
- Experience with coaching, mentoring, and stakeholder management at an executive level.
Compensation
The expected salary range for this role is $245,000 to $310,000. The final offered salary will depend on the candidate’s experience and skills. In addition to base pay, the role includes substantial equity compensation, a 401k plan with company matching, health, dental, and vision coverage, flexible spending accounts for health and dependent care, paid parental and sick leave, seventeen paid vacation days plus ten bankable federal holidays, four company-wide “Everlawlidays,” an annual learning and development allocation, and company-sponsored life and disability insurance.
