About the Director of Engineering at Headspace:

At Headspace, you’ll be leading the Membership group, a critical component of our consumer-facing product that impacts millions of members globally. What you will do:

• Lead and mentor the engineering team, including multiple engineering managers and principal engineers
• Oversee the Headspace application’s technological direction and strategy, ensuring alignment with the company's mission and goals
• Drive the architectural design and implementation of complex features and systems
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, design, and business stakeholders, to define technical specifications and ensure operational feasibility
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable code through robust development practices, including TDD, code reviews, and continuous integration
• Promote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and best practices within the engineering team
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure high software quality and data integrity
• Manage and optimize the engineering budget, resources, and timelines

What you will bring:

Required Skills:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role 
• Experience as a director in companies of comparable scale to Headspace. The headcount of the team you’ll manage is ~20.
• Proven experience leading mobile and web development teams, particularly Flutter, React and  typescript, Python
• Experience with cloud architecture, testing, monitoring, and alerting
• Strong understanding of mobile and back end architecture, design patterns (MVC, MVVM), and best practices
• Demonstrated ability to drive technical innovation and deliver high-impact projects in a fast-paced environment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on customer experience and business outcomes
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and align cross-functional teams
• Strong track record of recruiting, mentoring, and retaining top engineering talent

Preferred Skills:

• BS/MS degree in Computer Science or related field
• Experience in leading the membership/consumer growth engineering department
• Experience working with Braze, Branch, Zuora, Stripe, Auth0 
• Experience in healthcare

Pay & Benefits:

The base salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to skills and scope required, relevant licensure and certifications, and unique relevant experience and job-related skills. The base salary range for this role is $198,450-$270,113
