We are searching for a Director of Engineering, Data to join our Technology Department at the ACLU in New York, NY. This is a full-time, hybrid position that requires you to be in the office two days per week or eight days per month. Our Technology Department serves as a vital hub for analytics, product, and engineering, working to protect civil liberties through innovative digital solutions. As a leader on our Product and Engineering team, you will help us build secure, scalable systems that support our mission as the nation's guardian of rights and liberties.
Responsibilities
- Lead the vision and technical roadmap for our constituent data products, including our data warehouse, pipelines, and system integrations, while ensuring they meet high standards for performance and security.
- Manage and mentor a team of data engineers, providing the guidance and stability necessary to deliver high-quality work even during periods of shifting organizational priorities.
- Act as a strategic partner to stakeholders across the organization, translating complex technical risks and progress into clear business terms while advising on resource planning and architectural decisions.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should bring a strong background in technical leadership and data infrastructure. We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:
- Significant experience in senior engineering leadership, specifically managing data engineering teams and overseeing strategic planning.
- Hands-on technical expertise in designing and building data pipelines, storage solutions, and complex system integrations within high-volume environments.
- A proven ability to navigate ambiguous, rapidly changing organizational environments while maintaining a focus on long-term architectural goals.
- Demonstrated success in hiring, developing, and coaching high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to build alignment across diverse cross-functional teams and translate technical tradeoffs for non-technical stakeholders.
