Director of Engineering, Core Platforms at OpenPhone

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a technical vision for our infrastructure, security, and quality practices that aligns with our broader business goals.
• Take full ownership of the Core Engineering pillar, including defining its philosophy, mandate, and long-term direction.
• Drive engineering excellence by setting high technical standards and architectural best practices across the organization.
• Establish and track key performance indicators to ensure platform reliability, robust security, and high engineering productivity.
• Lead and mentor multiple teams and managers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Must-haves

• Extensive experience leading managers across multiple teams, with a proven track record in organizational development and team growth.
• A strong background in software engineering, including a deep understanding of architectural patterns and development principles.
• Proven ability to build and operate distributed, cloud-based systems at scale.
• Expertise in modern cloud-native architectures, including Kubernetes and microservices.
• Demonstrated success in leading platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE functions.
• Experience working within high-growth startup environments and managing distributed, remote teams.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across the company.
• Proficiency in TypeScript and experience with AWS and Terraform.

Benefits

The annual base salary for this role depends on your location:

• SF Bay Area, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Boston, New York, and Washington, DC Metro: $232,000 - $257,000 USD
• All other US locations: $207,000 - $229,000 USD
• Canada: $236,000 - $261,000 CAD
