Director of Engineering, Android at Crunchyroll, LLC

We are Crunchyroll, a company founded by fans that brings the art and culture of anime to more than 100 million viewers across 200 countries and territories. Our work spans streaming video, theatrical releases, games, merchandise, and live events, all powered by the stories and characters our community loves. We are now seeking a Director of Engineering for Android Platforms to guide the teams that deliver our applications on mobile, tablet, automotive, and living-room devices.

Key outcomes

• Lead engineering efforts across Android-based platforms while fostering a culture of operational excellence, technical quality, and timely delivery.
• Align Android development strategies with broader business objectives and translate those strategies into clear, achievable roadmaps.
• Establish and oversee rigorous standards for code quality, automated testing, continuous integration, and reliable product releases.
• Build and develop high-performing, globally distributed teams by identifying, mentoring, and retaining engineering talent.
• Collaborate with product, design, program management, video engineering, platform engineering, and monetization teams to deliver cohesive, scalable experiences across all client platforms.

Requirements

• Ten or more years of engineering or software-development experience.
• Five or more years of leadership experience within a software-engineering organization.
• Proven ability to set and maintain high standards for code quality, software testing, and product reliability in Android environments.
• Hands-on familiarity with modern Android development tools, frameworks, and practices.
• Experience creating development roadmaps and aligning technical initiatives with business goals.
• Demonstrated success implementing and overseeing test automation, continuous integration, and continuous-delivery processes.
• Strong working knowledge of Kotlin and Java, along with experience using Jetpack libraries and related Android frameworks.
• History of building and leading cohesive, globally distributed teams while cultivating an environment in which engineers feel motivated and supported.
• Fluency in English.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $244,000 to $305,000 USD. In addition to base compensation, eligible employees may receive an annual performance bonus.
