At Prolific, we are deeply committed to the world of academia. What began as a research-driven concept has grown into the most trusted infrastructure for human data globally. Today, tens of thousands of researchers at leading universities rely on our platform to power everything from peer-reviewed studies to major technological breakthroughs. As we continue to accelerate the future of AI, we are doubling down on our mission to serve the academic community by building smarter tools and deepening our relationships with those who drive scientific discovery.
About the Role
We are looking for a Director of Academia to join us in a full-time capacity. This is an executive-level strategy and operations role where you will have full ownership of our academic research segment. You will lead our go-to-market approach, manage institutional partnerships, and oversee the sales and customer success functions. We are seeking a leader who can combine intellectual credibility with commercial discipline to define how we serve the research community for the next decade.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full accountability for the academic segment, including setting growth strategies, managing retention and expansion, and allocating resources across different geographies.
- Design and validate institutional value propositions, pricing, and packaging to successfully navigate complex university procurement processes and buying committees.
- Strengthen our market position by deepening engagement with the research community, directing thought leadership, and collaborating cross-functionally with our product and marketing teams.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Deep fluency in the academic market, including a strong understanding of researcher motivations, university dynamics, and procurement cycles.
- Proven experience managing a business unit or revenue segment at a scale of $10M or higher.
- Demonstrated commercial leadership, including experience building or managing customer-facing teams of at least 10 people.
- Expertise in enterprise or institutional sales, specifically in navigating multi-stakeholder environments or transitioning from self-serve to enterprise models.
- Strong command of unit economics, such as CAC, LTV, and retention metrics, with the ability to use data to drive resource allocation.
- The ability to operate with strategic independence and solve ambiguous problems in a fast-paced environment.
